Ghana has a strong community of dedicated nurses and midwives, and the NCLEX-RN can be an important step toward building a nursing career in the United States. This guide gathers the key information Ghanaian nurses need, including how to apply through a U.S. state board, how nursing education and N&MC registration may be verified, where to take the exam, and how to prepare for the Next Generation NCLEX.

Whether you recently passed your licensing examination, already have years of clinical experience, or are simply exploring the possibility of working as a nurse in the United States, you are in the right place. No overwhelming terminology or vague instructions—just straightforward guidance written for Ghanaian nurses.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. You can apply to a U.S. state board of nursing, arrange your school and professional records, register with Pearson VUE, and receive your Authorization to Test while living in Ghana. You will need to travel to an available NCLEX testing location for the exam.

Ghana is not currently listed as an NCLEX testing location. After receiving your Authorization to Test, you may choose any available international Pearson VUE NCLEX center. Kenya, South Africa, and the United Kingdom are among the listed locations, but appointment availability and travel requirements should be checked before booking.

It depends on the state board you choose. Some boards require a particular CGFNS or credential-evaluation report, while others accept another approved service. Follow the board’s instructions carefully so you do not order the wrong evaluation.

Your N&MC registration or PIN confirms that you are authorized to practice in Ghana, but it does not automatically qualify you for U.S. licensure. Your chosen state board must separately review your education, registration verification, and other eligibility requirements.

A preparation period of approximately three to six months is common, although every candidate is different. Nurses who have been working in one specialty may need additional time to refresh areas such as maternity, pediatrics, mental health, pharmacology, and management of care while practicing NGN clinical-judgment questions.
