A 40-year-old female was admitted to the medical floor reporting dyspnea, general weakness, dizziness, and a usually low urine output of less than 200 ml daily, which is dark orange. Her eyes appear pale and puffy, and her skin is dry and itchy. She appears to have generalized edema 3+ on the body but more markedly on the lower limbs, arms, and face. Crackles are heard on auscultation with Kussmaul respirations. The bladder and abdomen are not distended, and active bowel sounds are heard in all the quadrants. She perceives mild headaches, is alert, and is fully oriented.
